The Connection:
Pete reposted a clip from Will Johnson's episode (S2 E24). Will's company, CourseCast, is active at Grass Clippings Rolling Hills — which is how we got on each other's radar. I reached out, we had a call in early March, and a month later I was recording on-site in Tempe.
Quote of the Episode:
“Life is really short. If I have the opportunity to get dropped off, have a caddy carry my bag in, and I’m about to go play in a par 3 lighted golf league on national television — I’ve made it.”
Bet You Didn’t Know:
Riggs Johnston won the Australian Open — beating Cam Smith and Joaquin Niemann by eight strokes — then came to the Grass Clippings Open and finished 29th. Par 3 golf is a different sport.
The Grass League is the world’s first-high stakes par 3 golf league, uniquely embracing both professional and amateur events in team-based formats. Grass League events are uniquely set on lighted par 3 courses with the flagship host site located in the Phoenix market. The League welcomes qualifiers, encouraging broad participation and the discovery of emerging talents.
With teams divided by regional markets, the League drives a sense of rivalry and community involvement. This innovative approach to team ownership and competitive play marks an exhilarating new chapter in the world of golf.
